BIO SKETCH

Emeritus Professor Krishan Deheragoda is an experienced educator, communicator and change agent catalyst with long-standing knowledge building and administrative cum managing exposure, gained from holding top-ranking positions in the university, government, professional and civil society organizations. 

As a staff member of the Department of Geography at the University of Sri Lanka since 1985, held several academic positions in the university and in the higher education sector. Served in the capacities of Advisor, Consultant and Chairman to a number of Ministries and institutions; was a member in many state committees. Represented the Government of Sri Lanka at a number of international fora. Headed number of private companies. Contributed intellectually to develop election manifestos and principle documents of the ruling party from 1994 to 2005. He has exposed to and responsible for accomplishing a number of innovative projects and to transform a number of entities.

 

Prof. Deheragoda benefits from excellent international networks in the fields of academic, research, and civil society. He has longstanding experience in dealing with complex social, environmental and development matters and structures, and with change. Instrumental in developing the lead poverty alleviation programme for the government of Sri Lanka “Samurdhi Movement” in 1994, founder of the self-funded shelter and urban renewal programme to rehouse the slum and shanty dwellers in the City of Colombo in 1998, initiated the way-forward strategy for developing the Solar Energy sector in the country in 2010 to name a few of his involvements.

He was the founder President of Sri Lanka Alumni and Professionals Association (2014) a catalytic strategic player to protect good governance, public accountability, rule of law and the “principle of subsidiarity” in governance.
